After 3 flights, delays, and 30 hours of travel, we're here! Our first ministry opportunity was this afternoon at The Nest Half-Way House, where we had a chance to spend time with a number of young babies whose mothers have been imprisoned.
I got to hold Kellie, a charming 4 month old - who all of the staff love. As I held her and gave her a bottle, I saw that I could help her just by meeting her basic needs. As I watched her laugh and smile at me, and as I looked into her big, brown eyes, I realized that she's no different that any other young child - she just wants love, affection and someone to care for her. Her circumstances are tough, and she faces a long road ahead, but people like those at The Nest will be there to help.
Even though we've just arrived, I think the Lord's working on me to:

We'll visit another site for The Nest tomorrow - and will let you know more on the blog.
Isaiah 58:6-7
Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?
Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter-
when you see the naked, to clothe him,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Thanks for sharing, Steve! Your post and the Scripture you shared brought tears to my eyes. May God continue to speak to you and transform your heart, and may He use you back home to help us all to grow! Praying for you all! --tina
