Gilbert was a little boy I met at The Nest today when we visited. He wasn't shy - especially when he could see his own picture on my camera. He didn't say how old he was - maybe 5 years old - but he seemed to love having our group come and sing, tell the story of Daniel, King Darius and the lion's den, as well as do a craft. But I could tell he just loved to have someone like an adult come and get down to his level.
The Nest has great people working there - devoted, caring, concerned, loving. But I can't help to think about the times when there aren't visitors - when the social workers work to reintegrate them with their families - or when things aren't quite ready yet, and the children stay at The Nest. Gilbert and the others at The Nest are the lucky ones - with people who are their advocates - and who step in to fill the gaps that others ignore. I know there are many other children like Gilbert who don't have anyone working behind the scenes for them, or even families who love them - please pray for them too.
